Car Crash

A father and a son were in a car crash. The ambulance took them to the hospital. The father was announced dead as soon as they got there, but the son was rushed straight to the operating room. The sergeant arrived, and said,"I cannot operate. It is my son on the table." How is this possible?

And I think he meant "Surgeon" and not "sergeant", rite? :P

sergeant is a person in the army.
